Custom Orthotic Instructions

Congratulations on your new custom orthotics. These will begin to make improvements in the foundation of your structure, providing balance and necessary shock absorption. The following instructions are recommended to insure the best results from this Foot Leveler’s Product.  Sure should begin your"pre-habilitative" exercises 1-3 weeks before you receive your custom orthotics and then continue to do them for at least a month after your get them to help the soft tissues on the bottom of your feet adapt to the new arch support.

1) Note that these are custom made for your foot. They will not work for anyone else, as the lab takes 16 measurements of each foot before building your orthotic.

2) Note there are 3 arches in the mid-foot, the center of the foot and the outside of the foot. These “bumps” may feel unusual to begin, however, very quickly they will feel normal as they will help to position your foot in the correct biomechanical position.

3) If possible, take the insert out of your current shoe before inserting your orthotic. In most cases, they will easily come out. Do not throw them away just yet. Insert your orthotic, being sure to insert the correct orthotic into the correct shoe.

4) If the orthotic is too long for your shoe, mirror image the insert of your opposite shoe to your custom orthotic. Conservatively cut the toe of your custom orthotic until it fits correctly. Be sure to error on the side of conservative when cutting.

5) For those inserts that are glued into a shoe, you CANNOT wear the custom orthotic in this shoe if there is already an arch in the shoe. No arch on arch.

6) Wear your new custom orthotics for 2-3 hours per day for 3-4 days. If there is no discomfort or pain, you can then begin to leave them in your shoe for most, if not all, of the day.

7) Only begin exercising with your custom orthotics in your shoes after you have been able to wear them all day.

8) If there are any questions or concerns, call our office at 970.674.0147.

9) Your custom orthotic has a one year warranty for one year. If there are any problems, please contact Dr. Hextell  immediately.

10) It is helpful to pull your orthotic out of the shoe and let it rest against the back of the shoe each night.  This will allow the orthotic to breath and prolong the life of the orthotic.

11) With normal wear and tear these should last approximately 2 years.
